Clinique Clinical Reality

2015–2023

As part of its scientific approach to creating skincare products, Clinique embraced artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) to create a massive suite of mega-multiplatform diagnostic tools to help customers diagnose their skin needs and get precision-perfect shade matches for makeup and foundation. Since Clinical Reality was introduced, it has conducted over 1 million scans and increased conversions by 2.5 times with a 30% larger basket size. It has also caused a fivefold increase in “dwell time,” with online users staying on the site for an average of 10 minutes after the diagnostic.

With regularly refreshed creative, the skincare tool diagnoses a robust set of concerns and recommends products and a regimen based Clinique’s 50+ years of dermatological research and 1+ million face scans.

E-Commerce Integration

Live virtual try-on integrated directly into the e-commerce shopping experience so users could try different shades while browsing and move seamlessly through the funnel from “try” to “buy.

Future-Proofing Complexity

With so many digital tools rolling out at different times, on multiple platforms, with various interdependencies, and integrated technology from a variety of 3rd party vendors, it was critical to envision and design a holistic user experience. This high-level flow shows where to combine several different face-scanning technologies into a refreshed virtual try-on user experience.

  1. CCR Skincare Diagnostic
    A clinically-proven augmented-reality diagnostic facial mapping tool that provides personalized skincare suggestions based on your unique skin concerns and then shows what your skin can look like after 12 weeks of product use.
  2. Foundation Finder
    A skin-tone scan that uses Clinique's revolutionary Shade-Match Science™  to help you find your perfect foundation shade match.
  3. Lip Foundation
    Based on your perfect match Foundation results, you can see your three most flattering neutral lip shades: naked, casual and glam.
  4. Makeup Virtual Try On
    A live try-on tool that boosted basket size by about 35% after  customer engagement.

A Metaverse More Like Us

2022

Clinique stepped into the Metaverse with a campaign designed to challenge unrealistic beauty standards and champion accessibility + inclusivity. Partnering with Daz 3D, we selected three trailblazing makeup artists to create looks for some of their 8,888 female and non-binary avatars.

Clinique’s First NFT

2022

We energized Clinique’s loyalty program with a social media contest. Three lucky winners each received a one-of-a-kind NFT that captured the spirit of Clinique’s heritage, along with an assortment of products for the next decade. Created in partnership with Sweet.
