As part of its scientific approach to creating skincare products, Clinique embraced artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) to create a massive suite of mega-multiplatform diagnostic tools to help customers diagnose their skin needs and get precision-perfect shade matches for makeup and foundation. Since Clinical Reality was introduced, it has conducted over 1 million scans and increased conversions by 2.5 times with a 30% larger basket size. It has also caused a fivefold increase in “dwell time,” with online users staying on the site for an average of 10 minutes after the diagnostic.

Live virtual try-on integrated directly into the e-commerce shopping experience so users could try different shades while browsing and move seamlessly through the funnel from “try” to “buy.
Future-Proofing Complexity
With so many digital tools rolling out at different times, on multiple platforms, with various interdependencies, and integrated technology from a variety of 3rd party vendors, it was critical to envision and design a holistic user experience. This high-level flow shows where to combine several different face-scanning technologies into a refreshed virtual try-on user experience.

Clinique stepped into the Metaverse with a campaign designed to challenge unrealistic beauty standards and champion accessibility + inclusivity. Partnering with Daz 3D, we selected three trailblazing makeup artists to create looks for some of their 8,888 female and non-binary avatars.

We energized Clinique’s loyalty program with a social media contest. Three lucky winners each received a one-of-a-kind NFT that captured the spirit of Clinique’s heritage, along with an assortment of products for the next decade. Created in partnership with Sweet.
