Won’t she ever get tired?

Tonight Oona played Peek-a-Boo with me! She was on the changing table and was holding the feet of her PJs when she got this glint in her eyes and raised the fabric up over her face. Whe she pulled it down, I yelled PEEK-A-BOO and she burst out laughing. So she did it again. And again. And again. And again. And again! So smart!!
Oona’s babysitter, Juliana is here today while I do some work. Oona loves her, she’s so sweet, and she loves Oona! They played in the morning, and then Oo went down for a nap. When she woke up, Juliana got her and was walking her around. She looked so sleepy and cute, so I took her for a minute for a cuddle, but when I gave her back, Oona looked at me and her lower lip pushed out in a big ol’ frown, and then she started crying, reaching out for me. Intellectually I know that attachment is a developmental milestone, but it’s SO hard to see it in action. It was all I could do not to take her back again.
Not sure when she started doing it exactly, but in the last few days she’s started stringing syllables together as she babbles… A Day Day Day Day… Ba Ba Ba… A Da Da Da Da… Gay Gay Gay Gay…
And just in case doing it all day long wasn’t cute enough, it’s getting on 3:45am and she’s been babbling for the last 2 hours!
Ah the pleasures of having a sick baby who suddenly finds herself feeling all better in the middle of the night. (She has pink eye and a stuffy, coughy cold.) After taking her out of bed, feeding her, changing her and putting drops in her eyes, she’s STILL wide awake and wants to play. So now she’s in her ExerSaucer, and she’s been hopping around, laughing and dancing to little lights and noisy toys for the last half hour.
She’s crawling!
Tonight, after thinking it over, and then wiggling forward a bit, she took 4 heaving lunges to reach my toes across the rug. And then when her dad got home, she got up on all fours and thrust herself towards him, mouth open, hands reaching, in order to give him a big kiss on the cheek.

Picked Oona up from school today — got a big happy smile when she heard my voice behind her. Then her little friends wanted to see who was there, too!!

Poor little sick thing, tonight Oona had her first fever… A bit of infant Tylenol and lots of cuddling later, she’s asleep in her crib and her head is cool again. I think I’ll keep her home from school tomorrow though, just to be safe.

Dave and Oona about to take a walk.

Oona asleep in her el-wired pram, wearing chicken PJs.

Kermet hearts all over Oona!

Family portrait!

Oona and Dad take a nap.

It’s a SmoochGnome!

Dusk.

Asleep in the RV.
We left early and went to the park, and rolled around in the grass giggling and smooching. I tickled her, she was laughing so hard. I was laughing too, nibbling her cheeks and handing her rattles. She rolled into the grass and mud, I fed her a bottle. We napped lying next to each other, my arm over her chest, cuddling her. She was in a great mood. I was in a great mood. It was a beautiful, warm, breezy late summer day. And I realized it was my last with her… Tomorrow I pack. Wednesday we leave for Burning Man. And when we return, the summer will be over and she’ll start school.
Day 1: Chair, check! Spoon, check! Bowl, check! … Rice Cereal, here we come!

Day 2: Rice Cereal EVERYWHERE!!!!

Day 3: Mommy, want some sweet potatoes?

So tonight Dave and I were playing Rock Band (which we just got for the Wii and it’s awesome, btw) and we do the first song, which is fun but the volume was pretty low, so Dave turns it up. Next song. SCREAMING suddenly comes from Oona, who was fast asleep in her little alcove… Absolute, utter indignation. “WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING? WHY IS IT SO LOUD IN HERE? I WAS SLEEPING, THIS IS SCARY!!” Poor little thing, big open mouthed frown/scream at the top of her lungs, tears streaming down her face. I felt so horribly guilty!!! And it still makes my heart want to burst open at how insanely cute she was. She was so mad!!!
