Oona the Taxi Driver
Tonight Oona said “Buh Bye!” and I said “Bye! Where’re you going?” She replied “Shopping!” So I said “Oh, you’re going shopping? What are you going to buy?” to which she replied “A taxi. A lello taxi!” Dave asked “You want to be a taxi driver? You want to drive people around town?”
“Yes.”

OMG 3’1 and 26lbs!!!
Oona went to the doctor yesterday for her 21 month check up, and she’s WAY over the 100% in height, and in the 75% for weight… She’s an inch taller than 2 year old boys are supposed to be! 3 feet 1 inch!!! Must be feeding her right or something, because she’s the most delicious, healthy girl I’ve ever seen.

Oona at the Intrepid this weekend
This morning Oona and I decided to get out of the house and go see the USS New York, which is only docked here for a few days, but the line to get in was about 10 blocks long! So instead, we went to the Intrepid museum. Oona had a blast! These shots are on the deck upstairs, but there’s a whole level inside with interactive displays like helicopters to climb in, boats to ride on, and even a space capsule!

Two changes…
- Dinner is a continuing struggle. Every night we make food for her and she throws the plate on the floor. It’s driving both of us a little crazy. The challenge is that she seems to be incredibly hungry and grouchy when she leaves school, so we’ve been getting her a snack on the way home. But I think that’s ruining her appetite. So starting today, no snacks on the way home. If that doesn’t help, we may have to start picking her up earlier so she can eat earlier.
- The Fix. Dave and I have admittedly been inconsistent when it comes to the pacifier rule. She seems to really need (want?) it sometimes, but we both feel like it’s encouraging a bad habit. For a while we were saying she could only have it at bedtime (unless she was really upset) and she seemed ok with that. But lately, she’s been really upset a lot, so we’ve gotten into the habit of giving it to her pretty frequently. So (re)starting today, no pacifier except in the crib. I hope we’re doing the right thing, I’m not entirely sure… 🙁

Mornings
Now that Oona can talk, it’s insanely cute in the morning to wake up hearing this teeny little voice calling out “Mommy.” … “Mommy.” … “Mommy.”

Talking up a storm…
It’s hard to explain the huge leap that Oona has taken with language. It seems like she knows hundreds of words, and can communicate nearly anything she wants. And the way she says things so damned cute!! All the animal sounds, pronunciations… Here are a few phrases:
- Moe tata? Mo tata, peas (More cracker, please)
- Bapple (waffle). Ex (eggs). Jews (Juice). A-Wawddahs (water)
- Foon (spoon). Fock (fork).
- Don-wantit… Don-wantit… (If you’re trying to get her to eat something)
- A Sawwwwh (Her yellow dinosaur)
- Lello. Puhpul. Gree. Boo. (Colors)
- One. Twoooo. Tree. Fo-wah. sIX. Sewen. Et. Nine. Den. (Note the omission of five, which she always forgets)
- A-B-Scees
- Awwt (art)
- Nena. Da-daddy. Pop-ax.
- Bye’ies (berry) Sye-i-ie (strawberry).
- Hosie (horsie). Effent (elephant). Honey (hyena). Lillah (gorilla). Doe-gie (doggie). Chich-chen (chicken). MOEse (mouse).
- Fix (pacifier)
- Bap (bat). Punkin (pumpkin).
- Emmo (Elmo – for a while there she was calling him “Eh-Mama” and then just “Mama”. So every time she’d see an Elmo book she’d point at him and say “Mama”. It became this running gag where I’d roll my eyes at her and laugh and say “No, *I’M* Mama!! ” So cute!!!)
The other day I was trying to remember what her first word was and I blanked for a minute… Since I finally remembered, I want to write it down now… The first word she really said was Quack. She was imitating a stuffed duck which quacked “quack-quackquackquackquackquackquackquack” and she would say “ya-ya-ya-ya-ya”. Her first real English word was “That”, and she’d walk around pointing to everything in site saying “That. That.”

She definitely understands…
Today Dave and I were at storage packing up our gear for Burning Man, and as expected, Oona got a little fussy after a while. In fact, not only did she get fussy, but after bouncing her, changing her diaper and trying to play with her, she really began to cry… So I started making her a bottle, but clearly I was taking too long, cause her stress level increased and crying was turning to screaming – until I said “Oona, I’m making you a bottle” and she stopped crying, tilted her head to the side, and patiently waited.

Like Father, Like Daughter
So as much as Oona looks like her mom as a baby, she also looks like her dad! Oona’s on the left.

Also check out the Sasha/Oona comparison…

Shots today. So sad!!
Oona got her second set of shots today… She was looking intensely at Dave and holding his hand while on the table – SHOCK! After much screaming, and then eating and crying some more, she’s now swaddled tightly and sleeping in her crib. I don’t expect her up much for the rest of the day.
